Welcome

Queenswood United Church is a friendly church family, sharing God’s presence in Orléans, near Ottawa.  In spite of the hardships of the past few years, we remain an active community of faith, striving to do God’s will in the world and to care for our community and our precious church family.  We extend to you our prayers for your well-being during these difficult times, and invite you to discover our church community by reading our Mission and Community Statement, and exploring our website.

QUC worships weekly, in-person, at 10 am. If you cannot be with us in person, please join us via our live streamed services on YouTube  available HERE  Past services will be found through the same link, if you cannot join us in person.

QUC’s covid protocols are aligned with Province of Ontario requirements. Proof of vaccination is no longer required to attend worship, capacity limits are no longer in effect at the chapel, and mask-wearing is not mandatory.

As a loving community in Christ, we are very cognizant of the fact that the pandemic has had a significant effect on our congregation and community, and that all pandemic journeys have not been the same. QUC continues to be respectful of differences in individual comfort levels, and will do our best to accommodate those who are not yet ready to return to “normal” ways. We ask that all those who come to the chapel, for whatever reason, act with kindness and compassion toward their brothers and sisters. Please self-screen before entering the building, and, if you are not feeling well, please consider all those with whom you will interact when determining whether you should attend activities.

We are happy to announce that Rev. Laurelle Callaghan has blessed us by entering another year-long appointment as our part-time minister, beginning October 1, 2022. As before, her primary duties will be worship-related, with individual pastoral care continuing to be provided by Revs Hilary and Robert Merritt. Throughout the past year, Laurelle’s ministry of presence and leadership has been a tremendous support to congregation members and leadership alike. She will continue this ministry, with attendance at Tuesday’s Coffee Chat and other congregational activities as time permits. She also will lead our lively Religious Studies Group sessions on Zoom, offering to congregation members and friends of QUC from across the country, the opportunity to grow our faith. Thank you, Laurelle, for your
spiritual guidance and care for the QUC family.

The Quilt & Craft group meets Thursdays at the chapel. All crafters are welcome to join the group at 10 am and stay for the day, or to drop in at any time for as long as you want. Bring your knitting, your handwork or just come for a bit of advice, conversation, or coffee. The fellowship is low-key and comfortable.

QUC Groups and Committees

QUC Groups continue their activities despite times of uncertainty and upheaval, as they shape a “new normal”. Outreach remains particularly active in helping to support those in need, and leads enthusiastic congregational participation in support of Centre 507, the OCCRC, KIVA, and other groups locally and abroad. The volunteers who manage our Community Gardens sent fresh produce to the Orleans Cumberland Community Resource Centre Food Bank during the 2020, 2021 and 2022 growing seasons. During months of shutdowns and isolation, members of QUC choir recorded anthems outdoors for inclusion in future worship services, and the Men’s Club continues its social and fundraising activities. Please email or phone the church office for more information on any of our groups and activities.
